Ran across this picture a while back, found it to be a bit mesmerizing. Might have been the nicely tailored suit, the helmet, the granite-jawed face...whatever, I had to have it.
Jack Holt was a star in the silents who transitioned easily into the talkies, and later continued as a supporting player until his death in 1951. In 1942, Gen. George C. Marshall requested that he serve as a horse buyer for the cavalry. Holt stayed in the service until 1945, and the first film he made on his return to acting was They Were Expendable. He was 57 at the time ... and I always thought of Bob as being the old veteran at 41 years of age! Thank you for your service, Mr. Holt.
