Bob in a Tux in Labrador ... Well, Why Not?!

Poor Reginald Owen, in another movie being annoyed by Bob.  They played well together.  Owen was such a superb actor, he could make any role work.  There is another photo like this, but with only Bob on the steps.  Actually, when I first ran across this one, I saw only Bob.  Bob in a tux on a ladder ... really eye-catching.

It's Bob & Elliott. Watch Out Girls!!

Rather like this photo, the boys in football gear chatting up the girls in a hot roadster in a college setting.

Bob and Elliott Nugent in So This Is College (1929)

The photo works as well when the brown from aging is removed.

The boys, Bob and Elliott Nugent, were friends back in New York.  They look comfortable together.  Bob is 25 and Elliott 33.  Oh, a tad on the old side for college, but they fit in better than the padding they were given to look more athletic.

I prefer the closer cropping in the B&W photo.

And my favorite shot.  Love the hair.

Does This Look Like an Older Bob car, or what?!

The Bentley Continental coupe ... nice car.  Definitely would have stood out on the roadway in the 1950s, and on into the 1960s.  Yeah, I can see Bob and Buffy motoring back to the Hamptons after a weekend at their New York City apartment.  Or maybe headed to their estate near Millbrook, NY.  One might as well be comfortable doing all that driving.

This is an advertisement postcard used by the auto service who refinished the car.

Such a Beautiful Young Man ... Have I Said That Before?!!

Bob Charms the British Ladies as Well

"The American film personalities, who came to England to attend the Royal Command Film Performance, were guests at a reception held at the Savoy Hotel, London recently.  Picture shows Margaret Lockwood, Robert Montgomery, and Patricia Roc."

It is November, 1947, and the two ladies with Bob are both very popular film stars in England.  They are obviously enjoying their time with Mr. Montgomery.  As is he.

And What Has Jr. Been Up To?

"Clockwise, beginning at 12:00 o'clock high, are Cathy Crosby, Theona Bryant, Randy Sparks, Mamie Van Doren, Robert Montgomery, Jr., Ziva Rodann and Woo Woo Grabowski, in a gay party sequence of "College Confidential," a stirring drama produced and directed by Albert Zugsmith for Universal-International release and starring Steve Allen, Jayne Meadows, Walter Winchell, Miss Van Doren, Mickey Shaughnessy, Miss Crosby, Herbert Marshall, Conway Twitty and Randy Sparks."

Skip (Bob, Jr.) probably expected a larger role in College Confidential (1960) then he ended up with, an uncredited role as "Boy."  College doesn't even rate as a "B" movie, but rather a "C" or maybe "D".  The IMDB rating is 4.8.  Not good.  The people who really should be embarrassed about their appearances are Herbert Marshall, Pamela Mason and Elisha Cook, Jr., three real actors, and Hollywood reporters Earl Wilson, Sheilah Graham and James Bacon, all of whom should have known better than take the money for such a gobbler.

At least he got to cuddle up with Mamie Van Doren.

Sophisticated Schoolboy, Always at Heart

Rather a fun read.  Oh, just a tad bit of exaggeration.  In the photo of Bob (or rather Harry) the article used, he is only 14, pre-Pawley.  I've added to the end of the article a photo of Bob at 16, more the "Sophisticated" schoolboy.  This article is from the September, 1934, issue of Modern Screen.

Adrian Designed it, Norma Wore it, Bob Admired it --- Great Team Effort!

Good month for Bob movies on TCM.  The Divorcee (1930) is available to stream through April 5th.  Three Bobs will join it later this month:  The Big House (1930) on March 28th; Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) on March 22nd; and Night Must Fall (1937) on March 27th.

One sexy scene/movie.  And four great Bob movies to watch.  IMDB ratings of 6.7, 7.1, 7.6 and 7.2.  Not bad.  I'd have Night Must Fall higher than 7.2 ... actually, I'd have all of the ratings higher.  But, then, I admit that I'm a tad partial when it comes to Mr. Montgomery.

Do you think he wore the scarf during his match?

This was a pleasant surprise for me.  Besides being a beautiful double-weight print, this is a Hurrell with his stamp on the back and name embossed on the lower right border.  The surprise is that I bid on the item on eBay, expecting to lose the auction as is the norm for usually expensive photos, but no one bid against me!  Made my day.  It hasn't happened since ... back to reality.
