Bob With Two Of His Elizabeths

I bought some clippings a while back, this was a pleasant surprise.  Looks like it is from one of those "Where are they now?" articles.  Wish the article had come with it, darn it.  Anyway, I'll guess  Bob and Elizabeth  ("Buffy") were visiting Elizabeth ("Liz") on the set of Bewitched.  The show ran from 1964 to 1972 making Bob somewhere between 60 and 68.  Looks like he is past the stage of concerning himself about his hairline.  It has got to be a relief for men to reach the age (or is it stage?) where they can comfortably go "au naturale."

It's a trio of great smiles.  Wish I knew more about Buffy, she seems always to be so pleasant.

"Robt." Montgomery?

So, they abbreviate his name to fit the herald?  Really?  Obviously, this movie was made before Robert was declared by MGM to be a "star" in 1931.  Afterall, it is the herald that should be designed to accommodate the star.  (At least they didn't use Bob!)

But the Flesh is Very Weak

               Well, I would not have thrown him out ... no way!

                         My only utterance would have been:
                             "Why are you still in that tux?"

A Photo That Deserves a Better Format

This is a trimmed 9" x 12" original photo of Roz taken in 1942.  Not bad for a then 35-year-old broad in an era when most actresses' careers were over by the time they hit 30.  Hurrell made everyone appear more glamorous, but he needed a good framework from which to build.  It is frustrating that the blog's format limits horizontal pictures to such a small display.  My apologies to Roz and George!

Enjoying the Simple Life Montgomery Style

Ran across a Bob interview from 1936 which took place at his New York estate in Patterson, NY.  It is an interesting piece, with some great photos.  Love the country squire attire.  Wonder if he had been riding that day, or if he wore jodhpurs all the time at the estate.  Whatever, he looks great, of course. 

Note the house in 1936 versus how it looked about 70 years later.  The addition of the bell or observation tower is an interesting change.  I would imagine the view would have been just awesome, the land now being part of Wonder Lake State Park. 

Bob's Beverly Hills home was said to have been inspired by his place in New York.  I never quite saw that, but if you look closely at the entryway in the 1936 photo...you can see how it could have inspired the entryway on the Beverly Hills home.  Take away the screen door and double it in size...

Boys and Their Cars

So help me, I just do not see Bob running around Beverly Hills in this vehicle. 

Bob belongs in his 1933 Cadillac V16 Convertible Victoria, or his 1935 Bentley, or his 1939 Lagonda V-12 Sports Roadster, or the Rolls he kept in England, or ... but a station wagon?!  I suppose he thought it went with his "country home" in Beverly Hills.  Yes, just imagine Bob and Betty with Liz and Skip, and, of course, the nanny, riding in the wagon ... just your basic farm family out for a Sunday drive.  At least we now know the vehicle he was in for the photo below.  Carrie used it in a post awhile back.  Yeah, one classy looking farmer.
