I've tried to imagine myself in Betty's place after this 1935 Photoplay article came out. There is the new Beverly Hills mansion, the live-in servants, the mink coats, and so on to console your hurt feelings. But, Really..to be called PLAIN when you have been a stage actress, you hobnob with the cream of society in both the U.S. and England, and you are married to Robert Montgomery, for crying out loud! Whoa...77 years later and I can feel the pain and anger.

Speaking of Photoplay, the December 1940 issue features an item from the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" where Carole Lombard provides some career encouragement to Bob's daughter: http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/529450.html. Also note that the entire run of Photoplay between 1914 and 1940 are available online, and I'm certain there's plenty more Montgomery stuff: http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/529355.html
Great info....thanks for sharing! Being in the process of recovering all things lost when my computer died, a personal thanks for providing the link to Carole and Co., a great site. And thanks, too, for the great image in my mind of Bob wearing his "canary-colored pajamas!"
