I was flipping around the channels last night and ran into TCM HD for the first time. Although it sounds like the bulk of the movies, if not all, are upconverted to HD, the picture certainly is sharper. If you are an AT&T Uverse customer, be sure to check it out (added to the lineup May 10).
I've seen a handful of true HD classic films, all wide-screen Jimmy Stewart, on HDNet Movies. It'll be interesting to see how this progresses.

Please oh god of DirecTV, let us have the TCM HD station too!
I discovered Dish had finally started broadcasting TCM in HD last week and like you said the picture is much sharper. I watched Fort Apache and was stunned by how beautiful the image was and happy that they showed it in its original format. Some stations think stretching the image to fill the screen is what HD is all about. They are wrong.
I watch the Food Network way more than I should and their HD channel takes me to the edge of motion sickness the way they stretch the picture!
What'd you think of the audio on HD? I thought I heard more hissing, but it's most likely a combo of the movie and HD audio.
Hissing is more noticeable, Carrie, if the soundtrack already has hissing in it. I started watching Davy Crockett, Indian Scout (until I realized it was about a non-existent nephew of the real Davy Crockett)and the sound was fine.
