Macy's

Tracy clued me in on this ad for Macy's that's running for their 150th. It's a clever combination of clips with classic stars touting or mentioning the store from way back when to today. What's with the escaping hippo?

Me...I'm a Gimbels girl.

This also got us talking about other ads with classic stars in them. The one that sticks in my mind is the Diet Coke series of ads with Cary Grant and others I can't remember. Argh, and it's not on YouTube like everything else out there.

Know of any other ads?

See the USA in your Chevrolet! Reagan and Wayne did a lot.. who could forget Fred and Barney lighting up a Winston, I think it was. I vaguely remember the coke commercial. Which reminds me, Sam's Club has a killer box set of vintage commercials for the holidays. I might have to pick that one up for an entertaining Saturday night after I "wash my hair" and catch up on the Saturday Evening Post.

Oh I saw this the other day. These kind of commercials always hit a soft spot with me and I always get kind of weepy. I don't know why. Makes me all sentinmental. Even though I can't stand shopping at Macy's!

Oh god those Diet Coke ads were creepy, no?

Very creepy. I'm going from memory, but they seemed very 2D. I'm willing to bet today's CG technology could run rings around that commercial.
