John Paul Jones vs. the Navy

In Shipmates (1931), Scotty (Ernest Torrence) seemingly enjoyed making Jonesey (Bob) miserable.  Here he has pushed Jonesey's face into a bucket of soapy wash water. 

How could anyone be so cruel to such an adorable young man ... soap suds and all!
