Fishkill Landing, NY to Canaan, CT via Los Angeles, CA

Henry Montgomery, Jr. was born May 21, 1904, in Fishkill Landing, NY.  The area was incorporated as Beacon, NY, in 1913.  By 1928, Henry lived in New York City, and was known as Robert Montgomery.  NYC is 77 miles directly south of Beacon.  In the early 1930s, Bob and Betty purchased property just south of Patterson, NY nearby the small hamlet of Towners, NY.  The Montgomery family would use the farm as their summer vacation home.  The distance between Beacon and Patterson is 26 miles.  After their divorce, Betty moves to Towners and resides there until her death in 1992.

In 1970ish, Bob and Buffy purchase their last residence, Hollow Brook, an estate near Canaan, CT.  Canaan is 66 miles northeast of Beacon.  Hollow Brook is Bob's residence when he passes on September 27, 1981.  Buffy remains on the property until her death in 2003.

So, Bob ends his journey 66 miles from its beginning, after that 2,800 mile side trip to Hollywood.  Good for him.  (By the way, Patterson to Canaan is 47 miles, the distance between the two wives for over two decades ---  a tad too close for my liking!)

My, but Bob had great taste in homes!

Debbie .... For sure! Hollow Brook and its setting ... just perfect for Bob. What I'd really like to run across is information on Bob's and Buff's Manhattan apartment, also ID'd as a townhouse. It's always referred to as "elegant" and located on E.72nd St, but little else. Do you know anything?

Hi,

I have Bob's White House Staff picture id card in the original leather holder. On the back of the id is has his height, weight, eye color, etc.. and his signature. It lists his address as 19 East 72nd, New York, N.Y. Thanks for the great blog! L.

Anonymous! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have certainly made my day! I shall have great fun researching the address. I have seen a photo of the holder from when it was listed for sale, just a great collector's item of both Bob and the Eisenhower administration. I must know: what is listed for height and weight? (Was he still claiming to be 6'?) Thanks again!
