Finally, have this Hurrell photo tied to a better time-frame - 1934:
A new camera study of Robert Montgomery, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer star, who will be seen in the near future with Norma Shearer, in "Riptide," which is being directed by Edmund Goulding.

Thanks for the confirmation of the 1934 date, just too youthful for '37. Love this session, Robert seems so relaxed and comfortable with himself.
And this news came just 2 days after finally ID'ing the oldest photo of RM I know of (see Earl of Chicago for photo ID'ed as late 60's to early 70's) as actually being December, 1978. Ah, sweet success in "Bob's World", as my husband refers to my obesession.
Thought you'd ask that...so, as briefly as possible...I've been getting my movie books out of storage after a remodel. Ran across "Starstruck", a collection of photos by the super fan that took the photo. He does not give a date, but mentions it was taken at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre which had had a celebration of Barrymore's 100th birthday. I googled that, came up with a Lillian Gish bio that mentions she attended the function, which was also the 50th anniversary of the theatre. The theatre opened up in Dec, 1928. The book also states it happened in December...so, ta-da, December, 1978.(Barrymore's birthdate is 1879, so beginning the celebration in Dec 78 would be appropriate.) "Starstruck also mentions he wore a hearing aid. But, heh, at 74 he was still up and moving around!
