Book Recommendations?

Debbie posted a comment about books and I thought I'd share - see if we can stir up some discussion:

I'm reading my way through bio's on stars that either worked with RM or were friends, since RM died before he could do his autobiography. Anyone have any good suggestions? The book on Elizabeth Mongomery had some great info. So did James Cagney's. (I've read two on him since he and Bob were close buddies).

What would you recommend? I have some thoughts I'll add later.

Update: Here's some recommended reading. I can't think of any other stars' books talking about Bob, so here's some stuff in general.

Stars in Blue: Movie Actors in America's Sea Services
James E. Wise
The "Stars in..." series is a great read. This particular book includes a chapter on Bob - I'd argue it is the most accurate write-up on him out there.

Architectural Digest, April 1992
Hollywood at Home issue - Bob's Beverly Hills home is featured w/vintage pics. You can find back issues for sale online.

Dangerous Men
Mick LaSalle
A little bit of everything on everyone.

The Debonairs

James Parish & Don Stanke
Not quite sure everything is accurate, but there's a fat chapter on Bob (and other favs).

Picspam: High Wall (1947)

Today's Conversation

Ok, I'm getting guff for posting too much Robert Taylor stuff. One more week, that's it ;)

On the Bob front, TCM has a mini marathon of Bob movies on his birthday, May 21, starting at 6:30 a.m. eastern:
  • 6:30 a.m. Big House, The (1930)
  • 8:00 a.m. Divorcee, The (1930)
  • 9:30 a.m. Private Lives (1931)
  • 11:00 a.m. Faithless (1932)
  • 12:30 p.m. Hide-Out (1934)
  • 2:00 p.m. Night Must Fall (1937)
  • 4:00 p.m. Last Of Mrs. Cheyney, The (1937)
  • 5:45 p.m. Lady In The Lake (1947)
There was some comments in the Personal Property post regarding Bob & Jean Harlow. Alas, all I'm able to contribute to the discussion is a photo:

Got another Jean/Bob pic you can share? Let me know!

You all remember that Personal Property was a remake of Robert Montgomery's The Man in Possession, right? Possession is a lot more pre-code, if you get my drift. RM was also in the stage production of Possession, which helped him get the film role.

Other useless thoughts from the past week...

Ran into this interesting post about studio logos over the decades.

Ever see Ace in the Hole? Ran across this tidbit with some background information you might find interesting.

Picspam: Undercurrent (1946)

Picspamming my way through Robert Taylor month here. Today's offer: Undercurrent. Despite Katharine Hepburn seeming like an odd match, I think the film achieves a "wanted" awkwardness with her. I'm half way through - please, no spoilers!

What better way to celebrate Robert Taylor month on TCM than with picspam! I'm 1/2 way through watching Lucky Night, so it's today's feature:

April Warner Archive Releases

Doing a small dance of joy here: the Warner Archive has just released No More Ladies and Their Own Desire to DVD.

Ladies
has to be one of my all-time favorites. 1930's socialites, dressed to the nines, partying and drinking as they like. I feel guilty just watching it.
