Frank Morgan Over Robert Montgomery ... Really?!

 Birthday salutations to a favorite Bob co-star, Myrna Loy.  She was born August 2nd, 1905 in Helena, Montana, where she would be buried with family in 1993 at the age of 88.  The bright, witty and independent Ms. Loy and Bob were good friends when making When Ladies Meet (1933) and Petticoat Fever (1936).  Unfortunately, politics took its toll and the two parted ways completely in the late 1940s.  Ah, shucks ... but they looked so good together!  

Love the set used in the photograph.  The background matte, the lush flowers, a paved walkway ... just nifty.

84-year-old photo and still gorgeous

 Rather nice photo of c. 35-year-old Bob.  I'm guessing 1939 as the year it was taken, based on the rounded-tip collar and solid color tie he wears briefly in Fast and Loose (1939).  Have never liked the style, like I should be deciding what Mr. Montgomery should wear!  It is printed on double-weight stock with a matte finish, which always improves a photograph.  

Ah...So Many Great Scene-Stealers

 This is a still from Swing Your Lady (1938) starring Humphrey Bogart and heavily supported by Allen Jenkins, Frank McHugh and Nat Pendleton...all great character actors.  When I first saw it, a quick look at Mr. Pendleton and I nearly choked.  The look on his face with a rope around his neck, just too funny.  The left eye, nose and mouth all slightly askew.  He has certainly stolen this scene from his fellow seasoned scene-stealers.

Having another heat wave out here in beautiful Bakersfield CA.  And as always, my mind wanders to Bob by the pool.  This is a rather nice clipping, and I have used a similar photograph in the past.  His poolside towels would, of course, be monogrammed!

I'm not sure just how the movie went over in Bombay, India.  

The center pages of the herald are rather plain, compared to the usual rather busy herald pages of the 1930s.  Of course it is a rather simple movie, and it's even 1930.  Gotta give them time to develop.

I just discovered I failed to publish my post for the 4th .... aaargh!!!  A million apologies.  Hopefully TCM will keep the great musicals around for streaming.  Geesch.

 Great schedule of musicals on TCM for today, highlighted by Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) at 2:30 p.m. PT, The Music Man (1962) at 5:00 p.m. PT, and 1776 (1972) at 7:45 p.m. PT.  Three all-time favorites of mine, just impossible to say one is better than the other.  I need to check the popcorn supply, and then settle in for a day at the movies.  Sounds like it's going to be too hot and/or wet to enjoy the outside anyway!
