Bob Opens His Mail ... Sure

Keeping things real simple this time!  Another shot of Bob at his new home, walking, swimming and now opening correspondence!  I think it might have been a joke, that stern and distant look.  Bob liked his cedar walls, both at home and at the studio.  He also liked that movie reel tie.  It's everywhere!!

Tuesday Challenge Day - Whose Autographs Are These?

 Autographs of famous people are nifty.  I like the concept of having a piece of paper in hand that the famous person held as well.  Hey, it's as close to meeting these people that I could ever have been.  Growing up in rural Missouri had its drawbacks!  

I like Bob's autograph ... of course I would!  Very stylized and legible, more often than not.  A lot of autographs are a tad difficult to decipher.  I like this one, but I'd never be able to figure it out without someone having printed the name on the back of the page.  

Actually, every letter of this man's name is mostly legible, but that first letter makes it all rather confusing.  Interesting.  

If any of you can figure out this name ... well, you deserve a round of applause!

I hope I'm not putting too much pressure on anyone.  At least it's not a Monday Challenge.  That could be rough.  Answers to appear in Thursday's post.  

Any Bob Movie Has its Moments

 A 10x13 version of this photo would look just great, framed and hanging on a wall of my home.  Yes, indeed.  Anyway, this is a really nice postcard by Ross Verlag from their collection of cream-colored photocards of MGM stars.  So luscious looking.  (Particularly the men!)  

If you're interested in watching Bob, Joan and Clark "live", Forsaking All Others (1934) is available for streaming on TCM until March 9th, as is The Divorcee (1930).  Forsaking suffers from being one of the first post-code productions.  Being hurriedly transformed from a quite racy Broadway play starring Tallulah Bankhead to a 'wholesome' movie to make the censors happy, well ... they did their best.  

Happy Valentine's Day to One and All!

And what a better way to enjoy the day than to watch a William Powell/Myrna Loy movie.  This page from the herald for I Love You Again (1940) makes for a rather nice Valentine's card.  The herald is in Danish ... it's not your vision that is going wrong.  Jeg elsker dig igen is a literal translation of the movie's title.  

I Love You Again is the 9th of 14 movies Bill and Myrna appeared in together.  And play together so effortlessly and perfectly.  Just great fun to watch.  

I'm afraid my Danish is rather lacking, but love the expression on Bill's face.

Bob is Down for the Count

 Tallulah takes down Bob to where she wants him ... on the bed.  She's got a good hold on him, and he doesn't seem to be trying to escape.  Good catch, woman!  Love the full-faced smile of Bob's.

 Bob and the two kids ... something you don't see that often.  That's one big smile on Bob's face, a happy Dad.  Proud of his kids, or amused by whatever it is that Jr.'s up to behind his back ... or both.

Bob in a Tux, And Other Beautiful Thoughts

 Letty Lynton, our favorite "Gee, I wish there was a good copy out there to buy" movie.  Left with bad copies of pirated copies to try to get some idea of what it really looked like ... it's just sad.  Anyway, a fair number of stills survive, but not many seem to be in circulation.  I would love to have one of Bob when he first emerges from his cabin on the ship.  Rrfff!

Ah, back in the days when rich people dressed for dinner when traveling on ocean liners.  Dressed, as in tuxedos and fancy gowns.  Now they travel in private aircraft, and probably wear sweats and hoodies.  Just no class these days.
