William Faversham, one of the old stage evergreens, told Robert Montgomery he should be tending a gas station, anything but acting. Now more people flock to the cinema to see Bob than ever heard of Mr. Faversham or read his old pal, Mr. Shakespeare.

ReplyDeleteHooray.
ReplyDeleteFeliz Cumpleanos Robert Montgomery!
ReplyDeleteJust enjoying the marathon today on TMC. "Hideout" is great. Never saw this one before.
ReplyDeleteMontgomery is great with Maureen O'Sullivan. And I've always enjoyed him best in his comedic performances.
And this line made me laugh out loud..when Montgomery is saying good-bye to Maureen O'Sullivan in the pantry, before she knows he's going awway to jail, and he asks her if she can wait 18 months.
ReplyDelete"I don't care if it's 10 years," she says.
"Don't say that even in fun," he replies, with a look of utter distaste.
Cracked me up.
I *adore* HIDE-OUT. Not just the scene in the pantry, but the final farewell where he tears up -- utterly adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mr. Montgomery!
Best wishes,
Laura
