So Many Handsome Men, So Little Time

This portrait totally fascinated me when I first ran across it.  Wow, was Reginald Denny ever this handsome?  The MGM photo no. indicates it was taken in early 1931, so he was 39 at the time.  Not bad for an "oldster."  Wonder who the photographer was, it is a really good portrait.

And then there was the boyish charm of Wayne Morris.  Like Bob, he joined the U.S.N.R. prior to U.S. participation in WWII, becoming a navy pilot who flew 57 missions off the carrier Essex in the pacific theater, became an actual ace and was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses.  Impressive stuff.  And, like Bob, he had a great smile.

IMO, Reginald got better with time, too.

Thanks for sharing about Wayne - had no idea he was such a distinguished vet!

Yes, Wayne was one of the few movie types who wasn't stationed in Los Angeles for the length of their service. And it took having an uncle in the navy pull strings for him. You'd think the military didn't want to put up with Hollywood in the real war...

And it's a double-weight photo with a matte finish! Scrumptious. Would love to run across a picture of young Bob of such quality...as if I could afford it!
