We Interrupt This Program...

For a color Ray sighting (1941):

Check out more Screenland color covers from 1941 over at Retronaut.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Robert Montgomery programming.

A Jolly Good Trip!

"FAREWELL TO HOLLYWOOD --- Film player, Lt. Robert Montgomery, U.S. Navy, returned to Hollywood for a farewell greeting to old friends before departing toward Washington, D.C, for final instructions prior to embarking upon active duty with the fleet 'somewhere in the world.'  Gregory LaCava and Irene Dunne bid Montgomery a jolly good trip."   March 11, 1942.

The Wildest!

"It was a wild, wild place in those days," (Lawrence) Olivier said of Hollywood in 1931, where he spent long nights away from his wife and in the company of actresses like Lili Damita or Elissa Landi.  "And Bob Montgomery, Doug Fairbanks and I were the wildest."  From "Possessed:  The Life of Joan Crawford."

Everybody's Favorite! Walt Roesner?

Let's see, Fox Talking News features President Hoover and Charles Lindbergh.  Early tickets are 35 cents.   A live stage show includes the "Sunkist Beauties Co. of 100."   And the leader of the pit orchestra gets bigger billing than Bob.  In a time long ago and far away.

Have a Happy Summer!

A fantastic smile, to me, is Bob's best physical attribute.  Yes, I know this is not Bob.  It's Don Ameche.  I just don't have a picture of Bob swimming, so Mr. Ameche will have to do.  Great smile, isn't it!

1930s Ferrante and Teicher?

The tag line for this 1935 magazine photo:  "Jim can do a right mean job at tickling the ivories."  Didn't know that Jim was a pianist, but how can you argue with a fanzine.  Wonder if he and Bob did duets?

1949, An Uncomfortable Year for "The Boys"

Ray Milland, 44, starred in "It Happens Every Spring" with Jean Peters who was 22, a 22-year difference.  Bob Montgomery was 44 and co-star Ann Blyth was 20 when they filmed  "Once More, My Darling," a 24-year difference.  My vote for the most uncomfortable lead is Robert Taylor, who was 37 when he starred in "Conspirator" with Elizabeth Taylor.  Liz was still 16 when filming began ... ouch!

Monnogrammed, Of Course!

Ah, yes ... the robe, the lifestyle, the man who wore it ... sweet dreams are made from this.

Dear Warner Archive...

We all think it would be a hoot if you would put Ride the Pink Horse on DVD. But if you're working on Letty Lynton, we can wait.

A Sinner with Charm

Changing a movie's name when released in a foreign country has varying results.  The Danes came up with a winner for "Hide-Out."
