Thoughts on Daddy

Thanks to Debbie & Laura for letting me know about these . . . excerpts from a 1991 interview with Elizabeth. Looks like they're from the Criterion Collection Laser Disc issue of Here Comes Mr. Jordan.

Weren't these great Carrie? Sorry I forgot to give you the address. Thanks to Laura, for bailing me out! Love the way she still referred to him as "Daddy". It hits home. I'm about the age she was then and still refer to my father as "Daddy". I guess no matter what else happens, if you're daddy's little girl, you are ALWAYS daddy's little girl. lol

Glad I could come up with the address! Debbie got me curious too. :)

I also liked her referring to him as Daddy because it immediately made me think of BEWITCHED, as Daddy is how she referred to her father on the show. Given the influence she had on the show one assumes that art was deliberately imitating life there.

Best wishes,
Laura

Of all the Laser Discs I ever bought - and still have - that was never one of them...bummer! I'm not sure if there's any more discussion on her on pop.

The daddy thing seemed odd to me, only because I thought she really disliked him. There's pieces in the interview where it feels like family but other times where you can feel the disconnect.

Anyhow, you could tell where politics could get in the way after her noting she doesn't shop at Macy's anymore!

This was a VERY complicated relationship I think. Dominick Dunne, who was a close friend of EM and worked for RM on his TV show said that EM & RM "ADORED" each other. From what I have read, the rift started with RM's divorce, escalated with EM's marriage to Gig Young. Throw in their political differences and you have two people who loved each other maybe too much, and so were very intolerate of their differences.

.........I could discuss this subject for hours. Very complex and VERY interesting.
